In this role, based in Chicago IL, you will lead and directly supervise a talented Data Engineering team and be responsible for providing technical leadership and architectural oversight of enterprise level Supply Data solutions.

As a leader in the Supply and Partner Data Graph team, you will be part of the Data and AI Platform Systems organization within Expedia Group. The team is responsible for building robust data pipelines to house and transform Supply and Partner data products using domain-driven architecture and streaming techniques to process massive amounts of data at scale and speed. We organize for feature velocity, so whenever appropriate, we leverage AWS services like Lambda, Kinesis, ElastiCache, Aurora, DynamoDB and EC2, ECS and S3; built on open source systems and libraries like Redis, gRPC, Cassandra, and MongoDB.

Supply and Partner data products form an essential input into various systems across the company including analysts reporting, CRM tools, and Machine Learning products. You will play a key role in the development of new Data Products, features, and end to end support while ensuring a high level of data quality and data rendering timeliness.

  • Actively work to improve the operations, processes, methodologies, technology choices, and practices of the team
  • Independently understand scheduling, cost constraints, and impact to other teams; and make resource and architectural trade-offs based on those factors
  • Interact with your team, customers, and peers to share information and improve cross-departmental processes
  • Strive for transparency and partnership between our engineers and our business partners, and encourage your team to embrace this as well
  • Lead, coordinate, and collaborate on multiple concurrent and complex cross-organizational initiatives
  • Engage with multi-functional project teams in concept discussions, and proposed technology solutions, to meet business objectives and influence decisions
  • Effectively build and maintain a network of key contacts across company, and leverage these contacts to achieve results
  • Communicate and work effectively with geographically distributed cross functional teams
  • Ensure all work meets quality, operational and architectural standards required for organizational success
  • Manage and lead the product development lifecycle to reduce time to market, improve product quality and ensure product success
  • Take initiative to be well-versed and have up-to-date knowledge in EG's languages, frameworks, cloud services, toolkits, and methodologies
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of quality software using premier tools: Git, Splunk, Datadog, New Relic, etc
  • Drive the development of private and public API's to enhance UI experiences for internal and external partners

Who you are:
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics and/or equivalent related professional experience
  • 3-5 years' experience in managing multidiscipline technology teams
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum software development practices
  • Strong coordination and influencing skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely
  • Experience leading the development of enterprise level data solutions
  • Experience as a hands-on developer
  • Experience working with cloud providers such as AWS (preferred), Google Cloud, Azure, etc.
  • Experience working with Docker, Kubernetes, Yarn, or related technologies
  • Proven success as a leader of software engineers
  • Demonstrated ability to focus on results using Agile methodologies, and open development environments
  • Experience working with Qubole/EMR (or similar technologies), Spark, Scala, Kafka, API development (inc Security, Connectivity) and various data exchange protocols
